Ah. The Nike Invincible 3. I feel like this shoe gets a lot of hype, and a lot of people recognize and applaud its incredibly soft feel. While I recognize this, and wear and use this shoe, there’s some factors to the shoe that I feel some people should be aware of, and I don’t think it can work well for everybody. Here is my first shoe review, so bear with me.
Specs:
Heel to toe offset: 9mm (40 mm stack height)
Weight: 10.9 oz (Men’s 10)
Soft, responsive Zoom X foam midsole
Addressing the softness: This shoe has an incredibly soft, responsive feel, due to the full layer of Nike’s Zoom X foam. It creates a really plush, absorbing feel underfoot. Because of its high stack height and how soft this foam is, it can make a great high cushioned daily trainer. Depending on your preferences, this can be really nice, or the opposite. Because of its softness, you can feel a lot of the ground, specifically rocks and gravel, and it might feel too squishy and heavy for you.
Addressing the weight: For a shoe that is so responsive, I felt that it was awfully heavy. It feels bulky on your foot, and for most people looking for a versatile daily trainer, I wouldn’t recommend it for some of the faster, higher-cadenced runs. However, for smooth, recovery or easy long runs (especially on the road), this shoe could be your golden ticket.
Addressing the fit: This shoe has an interesting fit on foot for sure. Through asking some of my teammates, and personal experience, the cushioned tongue just doesn’t feel quite right. In addition to this, the shoe is noticeably wide throughout the forefoot and heel, but it doesn’t have the two extra laces for the heel lock. This makes it fit interesting, and is something to keep in mind when approaching the shoe. However, because of its width and surface area, the shoe has a very stable feel to it as well.
Summary: Overrall, the Nike Invincible 3 is a solid high cushion neutral shoe, that is still relatively stable. I think the key word to remember with this shoe is soft. Despite this, it is somewhat heavy, and fits a little wide.
