Started off on Thursday with an easy 4 mile run at 6 ish. We headed out on the bus to the Salt Lake City airport. We then boarded the plane. I decided the best use of my time on the plane would be to watch Kung Fu Panda 4. Not a bad film, but not the best in the series. Then I watched Kicking and Screaming with Will Ferrell, which is a funny movie as well. I played a little bit of the game Cuphead on my laptop, but got too upset with its difficulty and turned it off. This flight felt very long, and I was anxious to get off the plane and move.
Unfortunately, after the plane trip, we had another hour or two in the car. We eventually got to Lehigh college, and went on a small run there, before going to get some food for dinner. Good thing I brought a headlamp, because it was dark. We saw some deer out on the course, but it was an exciting time. My stomach felt like crap, because I hardly ate lunch. However, afterwards I got Chipotle! We then went to the hotel, which was very nice, but had an interesting layout. That was day 1 of the trip.
On Friday, we woke up, headed to the course for a premeet. The course was really cool, but reminded me a lot of Bob Firman. I was very nervous, and excited to get the pain over with. My roommate told me I had sleep-talked during the night! I felt horrible! I convinced a bunch of the men to play Among Us to kill time while we were on bus rides, and we actually did! It was a ton of fun and made time pass by very quickly. But anyways, back to chronological order, we then got some lunch (I had Chik Fil A), then headed back to the hotel and killed some time for a few hours.
Friday night, we went to a restaurant called Carrabbas. It was kind of like a slightly more cozy Olive Garden. I had a delicious chicken and some mashed potatoes, but it didn’t fill me up. Those poor workers! After dinner, we basically just went to bed.
On Saturday, me and my roommate woke up, to eat breakfast and prepare to leave for our race. I must add that our hotels breakfast wasn’t very good, I would’ve rather made my own. But I’m grateful for it anyways. We got to the massive starting line, and the race went out quick. There was a bottleneck start, so you had no option but to get to the front or suffer the consequences. I felt great for the first two miles! But after that, I started to hurt. My 4th mile was over 12seconds slower than every other mile! Yikes. I know what I need to work on next time. The rest of the meet was spent just cooling down, cheering on teammates, and wishing I had ran faster. One of my teammates won the Gold race! It was super exciting. However, the team overall didn’t do quite as expected, and so for a bit, the mood was a little down. We headed back to the hotel, and we had one room still for everyone to shower in. We had 12 men take showers in a 25 minute period! We just left the shower on and rolled. It was a hectic moment. After this, we hit the bus and road again. Super boring, but at least we got some food at Chik Fil A. We filled the bus ride with conversations, and eventually arrived at the airport for our devastating journey home. I got an average orange creamsicle float at this expensive place in the airport, and prepared for pure boredom. Little did I know I would become a gambling wizard…
I played Texas hold em for a long time on this flight. Probably at least 2 and a half hours. Me and one of the coaches played until one of us lost, which took about two hours. It was crazy! But I got a lot better at the game, and eventually finally won. After the plane trip, and another bus ride, we finally got back home. I basically ate some food and went right to bed!
Sunday, I slept in til 8ish, then went to church at 10:30 (after eating a hearty breakfast of Captain Crunch and some scrambled eggs). Church was a little disappointing today and I felt like the message was so simple/obvious that it felt like I was in 1-4 grade learning about the Bible again. There was an adorable puppy that someone brought in front of me that made me really miss my dog back home. Post Church, I went and got some coffee with some kids on the team. It was fun, I tried this one apple crisp coffee drink that was pretty tasty. Got me in the fall mood for sure.
Post coffee, I did some homework, then cooked a few burgers on the George Forman. They were delicious. I went to FCA that night, and we played bump on one of the basketball courts. It was fun, but fatiguing. After this, I played some board games with some roommates and random kids in davis hall, and ended the night by playing some Super Mario Bros.
It’s been a long weekend, but now I gotta go back to reality and school. I’m excited for the future and more opportunities for growth.
