10/8/24 – Day 29 – “But the children love the books!”

Today was a little bit better than mid! Today’s post might be slightly shorter than usual, but some of my blogs have been long lately.

Started off the morning by waking up at 5:45, and headed to the fueling station for a quick oatmeal breakfast. We had practice at 6:30, and coach just had the guys that raced this past weekend do a normal run but with some slightly faster hills. Nothing crazy, but the body is still recovering from the weekend.

After this, the coaches had me just do plyos, but not the full lifting routine. I then headed home, cleaned up, and got ready for class. Nutrition was a snooze fest today. I don’t understand how I can learn so little in a class with so much material. I have to do all the work on my own outside of class with 0 help from the teacher. It’s almost like I’m in college or something!

After nutrition, I went and volunteered at an elementary school with some teammates working with some first graders. The majority of them were pretty sweet, and we gave out a fair share of hugs, fist bumps, and high fives. They have such funny responses to simple questions! We taught them how to do mountain climbers and wallsits, then we read a couple books to them. Ah, what I would give to be in their simple shoes once again.

Post reading, we went outside and played sharks and minnows with them. It took me back for sure, but it was a lot of fun. I’m grateful that I got to have that experience with those kids today, and while it was community service, I was the one who got served, and have a better heart thanks to those kids.

After volunteering, I had my Economics class. Snooze fest #2! It was ridiculous! I talked to some of my peers in the class and they said they were also disappointed with how little we learned amidst a challenging chapter. Oh well, like I said earlier, I guess I’m in college now and I can’t expect to have good lectures all the time.

Later in the afternoon, I went to study hall to get some work done. I was chilling, minding my own and grinding, til a girl with a horrified white face came up to me!

“Luke! We need your help!!” She said, terrorized.

“What’s up?” I responded with, unintentional and uncontrollable charisma radiating out of me.

“There’s a wasp over there that we need your help getting rid of!” She exclaimed

That was basically how it started. With the use of a paper cup and a piece of paper, I caged the bee, then walked outside, and let it go, like a quiet yet powerful bouncer kicking uninvited guests out of a club.

I felt like Chewbacca getting a medal from Princess Leia at that point. That gratitude I received for disposing of that wasp, was never before seen.

In all seriousness though, I was glad I could help get rid of the bee, even though that situation was much less dramatic.

A bit after this, we had a team meeting. Luckily, the cross folks got to leave early. Since then, I haven’t done much of anything interesting. And that was my day!
