Woke up this morning, made myself a breakfast of cereal, coffee, and some hard boiled eggs. I then headed to study hall, and worked on some nutrition homework. After this, I went to accounting class, got an easy 7 mile run in up Green Canyon, and then I headed home.
It’s been deceptively cold today, no snow or anything but just very chilly. I realized that I do have my snow gloves! Now I wear them when headed to class.
When I got home, I looked over my old economics test with Garrett and Allie, and we studied for a bit.
This is where the real day begins. Garrett, who also has a scooter, and I, were planning on scootering over to his house (800ish meters away) then eating some dinner. We were heading over, nothing but smiles on our faces, excited for a good time. I was wearing shorts, because I hadn’t yet showered from my run and was going to shower at his place. Davis Hall, where I live, is on one big hill, so we were heading down, past the stadium, to Stadium Crossing.
Garrett’s scooter goes up to 19 mph, and mine goes up to 15, so he was flying. I was too, but the speed just started picking up more and more. At one point I looked down at my speedometer, and it read 17! On my scooter, made to travel no faster than 15! I tried to slowly put my hand on the break, but my back wheel wasn’t too happy with the intense force, and it started drifting to the left, then right. A millisecond later, I pounded the ground, hip first, 17mph of force smacking the stone cold concrete. While this was unfortunate, and very unideal, it could’ve been much worse.
I now officially know and have experienced the true powers and dangers of this vehicle, and will treat it with much more respect and caution. My hip has a massive chunk that is bloody and the skin scraped off, and unfortunately, the underwear I was wearing got a big hole ripped into it from the fall as well. It was surrounded in skin flakes and blood. Yikes!
Eventually, we made it to Garrett’s house. We had some food, I showered, and then we headed to a community service event.
There was an opportunity to go create sleeping mats for the homeless people in Cache Valley. We basically folded plastic bags, and then they were weaved into these sleeping mats. It was really cool and creative, and a really incredible thing to witness. Just an excellent reminder that something very insignificant can be powerful when combined with others. Reminds me a little bit of humans and humanity. We are all insignificant sinners without God, and he can turn our lives into wonderful, powerful and inspiring ones.
Anyways, after we served, we headed back to Davis Hall. Merideth (the baking master) made some No-Bake cookies, and we played games. We played this card game called Hands and Feet, that was pretty fun, followed by some more Secret Hitler. I had a devastating loss during the secret Hitler game, but it was a good time.
Overall, today was a unique day. Not only did I damage my body on the scooter, but I had a captivating service opportunity, and I also got my schedule for next semester! Im grateful for all the positive and negative experiences God is putting in my life.
