12/7/24 – Day 57- Life’s Incredible Again

Woke up at 7:00, took a GU gel, and went out for an easy 3.5 mile run with Merideth and Cailey. The weather was 19 degrees when I woke up. My ankle is bothering me, but with some strength building and just getting back into it it should be fine.

Post run, I ate some toast with jelly and peanut butter as well as some coffee. My stomach felt horrible today! I’m not sure why, but that was rough.

A bunch of our roomates do little scripture studies on Sunday nights, and this weeks is John 6 (feeding the 5000). So I took some time and read that to be prepared.

I had some money left on Pepper (athlete money), and it expires Saturday nights, so I went with Jane and Ava to Everbowl, a fruit bowl place. I give it a D rating and here’s why:

The base was SUPER bland, and not sweet enough. The bowl was expensive, and I felt inclined to tip, so it was like 13 bucks, for like 500 calories. It was super icy, so I felt like my teeth were just freezing as I ate ice. The service was slow, as there was only one worker. She didn’t do anything wrong, she was efficient and nice, but it didn’t positively contribute to the experience at Everbowl.

After this, I went out and played some Pokémon go with Brad, Mitchell, and Garrett.

I then went with all our roomates to watch Merideth’s piano recital! She killed it, and inspired me to try and get better at playing piano. She played Nocturne in E Major, or something, it was a very recognizable piece with incredible difficulty, so it was really cool.

My LDS roomates had an activity that was giving out free Panda Express, so I got some and played some games there.

After this, I decided to go to the basketball game! Our team is really good so it was super cool to get to go watch it for free. I went with Ryan, and we sat behind the band, very close to the floor. It was sick being so close, and the band didn’t play too often, so it wasn’t annoying at all. Usu remains undefeated, and won by 30 points! There’s a tradition where if they score over 85 points, the local Culver’s gives out free ice cream (it’s somewhat of a small serving), so it’s always fun to cheer for that. Our student section is ruthless!

After this, we stopped by a school event called PoBev. It stands for “poetry and a beverage”. People will sing, read poetry, there’s live music, stuff like that. We’ve talked about performing at PoBev one day. We didn’t really stay because none of our other friends were there, so we quickly left.

After this, we went to Lees marketplace. I used the rest of my Pepper money to get some groceries for the first few days of the week- chicken, milk, essentials like that.

I then headed home to the dorms, and we had a little Christmas party! Ava got everybody funny dollar store gifts, and we looked at different funny photos from the semester, and it overall was just a fun time. We then took beet juice shots! Beet juice is actually a pretty common supplement for a lot of athletes, especially runners. Then, pitch perfect three was watched. It made me feel like I was back at home, watching it with Libby and the fam, so the pitch perfect movies are always special.

After this, around 12ish, something crazy happened! I had been working for weeks to try and convince my roomates to all move our mattresses and sleep in the lounge on our floor of the dorm room. And they finally agreed! So we moved the mattresses out there, laughing the whole time, but we couldn’t turn some of the lights off in that space, so it was gonna be difficult to go to sleep. And then, the unthinkable happened.

We went into our bathroom, grabbed the shower curtain rod, expanded it, and stuck it in between the two walls. We then draped a blanket over it, shielding us from the invasive light. We all slept super well, and thought it was the funniest thing, being locked away in our little fort. Made me feel like I was a young kid again, making a for with chairs and blankets.

It was a good day! Pretty busy, a lot happened, but it was a good day. Its been kinda a sad week, with cuts, taking a break from running, and just random stuff that goes on, but today was an excellent reminder of how blessed I am to have not only really engaging, inclusive, and fun friends, but an engaging life in general. Thanks for sticking through all my yapping!
