3/15/25 – Day 74 – Sick Like a Dog

Today I am sick. While this is unfortunate, it promotes an excellent blog post, which is well needed considering I haven’t written one almost a month.

I woke up this morning, with desperate hope for my throat to feel better. The previous night I had a slightly sore throat, which I believed to just be exhaustion from lots of singing and talking, but I was incorrect.

Oh well, glad I could notice that I was sick before it got bad.

I woke up, texted the coaches, who told me not to run and rest all weekend, and so I slept in. I then followed that by making myself breakfast, and watching a Ben Stiller and Jack Black movie.

After this, I cleaned some dishes, started a laundry load for my sheets, and started doing homework.

It feels weird being in quarantine again since I haven’t been sick this year! I feel un-obligated to step into public out of fear that I will spread sickness to my teammates and friends.

I have faith that with enough water, dedication, tissues, and sleep, I should be back and healthy in no time. My body feels ok despite my nose, throat, and stomach, but I think I’ll work on it too so when I return I will be ultra-ready.

In the meantime, here’s a short poem about sickness.

The sheets created a new form of silence and boredom, as I reminisced on my long time spent beneath them.

My throat like a fire, relentlessly sparking and demanding attention.

My nose like a dam, reluctantly and stubbornly not letting any mucus escape similar to my inexistent income.

I lay in bed, thinking about what my future would like like if I had devoted more precious time to sickness prevention.

Alas, what was done was done, and I must find a way to scram from the body-snatching cold upon me

I would find a way to return to training, despite the perks of infinite movies and cough drops

While that life was one that has some appeals, it truly wasn’t life, for there was no choice, communication, or people to see

This sickness created a newfound anticipation for my return, and brought with it a villain arc, preparation for success with no stops.

Hope anyone reading this has a pleasant day!
