Another suburban Thursday morning.
As a little recap, the other day I was riding my electric scooter to class, when the gas suddenly stopped working! I tried resetting it, but it just kept doing the same thing, and eventually the display was turning off too! I was bummed, and late to class that day.
I knew I needed to make an adjustment or figure something out, or the rest of the semester would be very rough. So I did…
After school yesterday, I went and got some calf treatment from the trainers. After that, I went to DI (Deseret Industries) to try and find a solution. Looking around the store, I was losing hope. I figured my dream of flying around campus on a dope vehicle might go down the drain.
Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a skateboard. You’re probably thinking, “Luke, you’ve never ridden a skateboard in your life, this is a horrible idea.” And you’re right, because it was. But anyways, it was a 5 dollar skateboard, so I copped it, and mentally prepared myself to learn how to skate.
After I got back to Stadium Crossing (my apartment), I threw the board down, and prepared to skate to the Marketplace for dinner. One problem though- I can’t skate. So for a second I was just struggling, trying to make it one bound at a time, but I realized it was hopeless. I was better off walking. Part of this was because the skateboard was low quality, and part of it was because I am a noob to riding a skateboard.
I knew in that moment my temporary solution to my problem would need a new temporary solution!
So later that night, I decided to go to Walmart, to hopefully get a longboard or a more easy skateboard. Ava and Jane accompanied me, and we searched long and hard for something to work. What we found was not what we expected, but it was what we needed…
A PUSH SCOOTER?! I couldn’t believe my eyes. A scooter that could hold 220 Lbs of weight, and was made for someone up to 6’2! (I’m 6’2). Jane convinced me it was a great idea, and it was 40 bucks, so I decided to send it, knowing I could always return it. I bought the 5$ warranty, taking account for my past experiences with vehicles, and left the store, with a big box and slight grin on my face.
That night we set it up. Funny enough, it’s red and black just like my old e scooter. The girls think I should have a funeral for my e scooter, but I’m not giving up yet. Tonight, Drew, an electrical engineer, is going to try and figure out what the problem is (mainly because he wanted to come over and play fortnight).
Anyways… I’m praying this solution won’t be too hard on my legs “riding” up the hills on campus. School has been fine lately, I’ve been on top of my work. I miss Max! Every day I just want to get a pet. More importantly than Max, I miss my family. Adulting isn’t always the most fun, I am not crazy about being in charge of all my meals, cleaning, time management, etc. (my parents have been telling me this for years).
That’s it for the day, I’ll see you all tomorrow, with updates on how the first day with the push scooter goes. I’m open to name suggestions as well.
